In the younger classes of Clydesdale, however, the competition was keen, the excellence and uniformity of the quality giving the judges hard work in 'making the awards. J].\ James Grant's Baron Marun secured -die. first and champion honors in the aged stallion doss, also the prize for best walker. The honors in the 3-year entire section were worn by Mr. J. S. Ou','iiton's Royal Garthlund. This colt was also awarded the reserve championship. Sir Garnet, belonging to Martin Brus., of Auroa, was awarded first in the 2-year stallion section, Mr. J. S. Ougnton's 2-year filly, Royal Queen, \v.is champion mare of the show. The same owner sold his other well-known mare, Miss Ivanhoe, to Mr. E. Short, of Fcilding, for the round sum of £250. Spring cart horses.—This was a good section, competition being keen. For beet mare or gelding capable of taking 15cwt., Mr. Wm. Hooper, of Tokaora, scored first, Mr. W. Rountree's Tui being second. In the light delivery class M_\ T. W. Rcilly, of Eltham, received the award. Mr. H. Spratt (Hawera) secured first place for best milk-carter, in the class for general farm purposes, Mi. E. Bennett (Hawera) was first, and Mr. A. J. Hastie (Manaia) second. Thoroughbred.—The champion thoroughbred entire honors went to Air. If. Vine's Coronet, Mr. J. Goodwin's Sylvia Park being second, and Mr. J. Casserley's Foremost third. The champion brood mare was Mr. J. Hook's Aquillo. Carriage and Coaching.—Sonre excellent animals were exhibited in this useful section. Captain Mitchell's Silver King was first in the class for entire three years and over, Dr. Harrison's Victory heing second and Mr. E. Liddington's Boston third. Saddle and harness horses.—This was a truly magnificent section, horses from all over the island competing. The task of judging was a pleasing, though somewhat arduous, one. All the animals were Beautifully mannered, deilonstrating much careful schooling. In a class of ten the award for best roadster or

hack up to lost went to Mr. T. L. Blight's (Palmerston North) Buckshot, Mr. A. T.-Wills (Hawera) second, and Mr. E. T. Burke (Otakeho) 3. In the 13st hacks Mr. A. .T. Hastie's Breeze i wore the red ticket, Hiss E. Abbott's Flying Cloud being second, and Mr. .1. L. Fogertv's (Eltham) 3. In the lht class Mr F. Besley secured second award. Some nice colts were shown, the 13st class being won by Mr. W. O. Williams' (Hawera) Kitty, jfr. R. H. Nolan secur- ( ing second prize. The best troon horse up to 14st was Mr. Jas. Bull's (Hnnt-jr-ville) Newport, with Mr. C. Gordon's (Wanganui) Aberdeen second. The bj-t lady's "hack award fell to Mr. L. I Bremer'e Redan, the snme animal winning in the class for best-paced hack. The polo pony class was won hy Trilby, owned by Mr'. L. H. Wilson (Pateal. The balance of the awards in this section—the light harness classes—were not availablp to the press at 5 o'clock. \ although the judging was completed V about 2 o'clock. After the front, section hud been inspected the animals were moved t off, and the next line brought up. and so on until all the animals had been brought forward in turn. Cnancy's Star Lass unfortunately came to grief. This mare was a tnongst t hose p'eked out for the final trial, and in negotiating the fifth jump she tripped and rolled on her rider. Fortunately Mr. Ciianey was uninjured further than sustainicg a few bruises. Wie-jumping competition—Mr. .1. I!. Hunter's (Waitotara) Bill 1; Mr. B. 11. Chuney's Star Lass 2; Miss M. Briggs' Grey Star 3. Sixteen competed. Best jumper in steeplechase style, carrying'not less than 12st—Mr. N. M. Paterson's (Tnaha) Ilaere 1; Mr. F. Foreman's (Hawera) Bushy Park 2; Mr. Chas Gordon's (Wanganui) Cavill 3. Sixteen competed. The best rider in this event was Mr. Sid. Mcßae. Ladies' Riding Competition—Mr. Chas. Gordon's (Wanganui) Aberdeen 1; Miss M. Briggs' Grey Star 2; Air. N. Moore's Loatcfos 3. Best rider, Miss M. Brags (Hawera) 1. Miss Nixon (Wanganui) ?, Miss Abbott (Whangamomona) ". Twelve horses competed. Dual jumping comnctition—Miss Al. Hriggs and Mr.'A. Mitchell 1. Miss Abbott and Mr. F. Tligginson 2, Miss Brio's and Mr. Sid Mcßae 3. One of the most successful breeders at the show was Mr. -T. TI. Sellers, Okinawa. His exhibits were Berkshire. Middle Yorkshire and Poland China pigs and Polled Durham cattle. With 22 animals he secured no less than 30 awards, including live championships. In the Yorkshire breed his magnificent so,v won the coveted champion ticket from a 00-guinea pig imported from Home and the best stock from the S'outTt Island : studs. In the Berkshire boar and sow classes his animals also were awarded the i championships, and for 12 months and , over sow in the Poland China section a j i i/ko award was given. |
