STRIKE OF STATE MINERS.
BOTH SIDES LYING LOW.

Greymouth, Thursday. in the course of an unofficial statement, it is shown that the miners' executive some months ago submitted a proposal for a one penny reduction in the hewing rate provided the mawement did all the trucking. The mine°B, however, refused to confirm this. Although the point was in dispute there had been a demand fro m the Miners' Union that the management should undertake all trucking and jigging Several efforts had been made to brin" about a compromise on this issue, ~„! they had always proved abortive, the men being in no humor for anv compromise. They want their demand or nothing.
The miners' meeting Yesterday lasted over two hours, but no communication whatever would be made to the pre*. Both soles „ n . -lying low." taking no action whatever to bring about a ,„. sumption of negotiations/ All member, or the Union are pledged to refuse to give information to the press, which in consequence of the reticence of both parties is at a disadvantage in obtaining authoritative statements.
