A concert is to be held in the Kent School on Friday night, 2<>tli Novemoer, the proceeds lo go lor purchasing prizes for the school-children. The animal general niecting of the Cape Egmont Horticultural Society was held in the hall on Tuesday night. :. fair number of members was present, Mr. J, Burgess (president) being in the chair. The annual report congratulated the Society on the most successful year's work since the Society was started, largely due to the conscientious way in which the secretary carried out his duties and great regret was expressed that Mr. Sefton, having left the neighborhood, would no longer be able to ac\ as secretary. Notwithstanding that £5 10s 6d more was paid out in prizes than in the .previous year, the credit balance increased from £4 18s lOd to £0 13s 4d, a position that ought certainly to give confidence to those supporting the Society, and induce them to continue their efforts. The future of the Society, the report proceeded, Jargcly depended upon getting a good successor to the late excellent secretary, and it was sincerely hoped that someone would fill the gap and so keep going a society that had been such a credit to the district. The large increase in the entries proved that' the Society's shows were not without their influence in promoting improved methods of horticulture, and were yearly becomiug more popular. Anything that tended to the beautifying of the surroundings and to the larger production of the most wholesome articles of diet—vegetables and fruit—must be of benefit to the residents in the district, and the committee confidently relied upon all to do everything in their power to ensure the continued success of the only society of its kind between Sew Plymouth and Opunake.

'The balance-sheet shoved the total receipts £43 (is Id and the expenditure £3O 12s 9d. The report and balancesheet were adopted and Mr. Sefton's resignation accepted with, regret. xV hearty vote o! thanks was passed to Mr. Keasbcrry for his services as auditor.
