Only 20 were rescued alive on Saturday after a week's entombment, They reported that 22 were probably alive in another section. The pit is full of gas, but the search for the 22 still continues. Walter Waite and William Hynds' (Englishmen), William Cleland(a Scotchman), and Joe Pigatl proved heroes. Hynds induced his Seeing comrades ti build themselves within a remote chamber. He was not aware how time passed. When food was exhausted they consumed wax matches, leather, and cedar bark. Ulcland conducted n service /twice every day. |
