The Education Board's offices mill be closed from December 24th to January 10th for the annual vacation. In the Police Court yesterday morning a man named John Shepherd was charged with the theft of a watch, valued at £l, and 30s in cash, from the person of Thomas Palmer, at Waitara, on 27bli October. Upon Detective lioddain's amplication, the accused was remanded until Monday next. Bail was granted, accused in £SO and one stirciv of £SO. A feature of the toy stall at tin- Central School bazaar this week will be the air-ship, which arrives on Wcdncwbv. and will require to be put togelh-r inside the building. This is the work of a local flying enthusiast, and should attract a good deal of attention. The ladies' committee in charge of tiie toy ' stall hag collected a number of use-'u'l articles, and when inspecliii- the auhliip, visitors to the exhibition will ii>,i a number of toys, etc., to attract attrition.

The borough inspector lias, we understand, asked that in future ail borough ■by-law prosecutions be heard before the Stipendiary .Magistrate. The December meeting of the Education Board will be held on the 14th and loth, instead of the 22nd and 23H, the regular dates. The Board will pass the payment of teachers' salaries at that meeting. Whether the salaries will be .forthcoming or not is a matter that' depends upon the Education Department. A meeting of shareholders of the New Plymouth Gas Company was held on Holiday to consider the question of increased" capital, which was introduced by I-Mr. T. Furlong at the last annual meeting.
