Mr. Bowling, in a speech at Newcastle, indicated that the miners would light the coal vend by means of cooperative collieries. A general strike, he said, was not aimed at, but it was intended to set up a coal famine in Australia. CRUSHING THE COMBINE. ' STRIKE CONGRESS CONSIDERING THE COOPERATIVE SCHEME. THE INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE. UNION S.B. COMPANY INCREASE FARES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The Union Steamship Company advises that an increase of 10 per cent, in passenger fares and of 25 per in freight rates will be made between New Zealand and Australia, commencing with the Moana this week. The coastal rates will not be altered.
