A BURNING FATALITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. Hokitika, Saturday. Mrs. Thomas Fergusson, a well-known settler at Mt. Hercules, was drowned when fording the Mikonui river on foot last night. FOUND DEAD IN BED. Dunedin, Last Night. A widow named Eliza Cheyne, living at. Mosgicl, was found dead in bed this morning. When she retired last night she was apparently in her usual state of health. Deceased was 71 years of age. SUICIDE. Whangarei, Last Night. Alfred Lctford, a hairdresser, about 37 years of age, committed suicide at three o'clock this afternoon iu a small room behind tlie saloon by shooting himself with a service rifle. The muzzle had evidently been placed under his chin, the bullet issuing from the top of the head. Financial trouble is assigned as the cause. Deceased, who came* to Whangarei iu February last year, from Fiji, leaves a wife and five children. That Letford tried last week unsuccessfully to dispose of the same rille for £2 suggests that he brouiled over the matter and determined to use it on himself.

FOUND DEAD. Christchnreh, Last NightMiss Teresa Power, aged thirty-two years, second daughter of John Powe', of Woodgrove, Mason's Flat, was found dead on Saturday morning at four o'clock in the Waitohi Gorge road by a shepherd named Gray.
