Toe Daily Telegraph announces thai Mr. Herbert Gladstone (Secretary for Home Affairs) has accepted the Govern-or-Generalship of South Africa. Mr. Gladstone is the youngest eon of the great William E. Gladstone, being born iit tlfe year 1854. He has had a Siiginguished career. After graduating at Oxford University he was history lecturer at Keblg College for three years. He was private secretary to his father, 1880-81; a Lord of the Treasury. 188185; Financial Secretary to the War Office, 1886; Under-Secretary to the Home Office, 1892-94; First Oomimssioner of Works, 1894-95; and Secretary of State for Home Affairs since 1905.
