There was a large attendance at the South road hall last evening when Messrs. Collier and Co. gave a grand vocal and instrumental recital by the gramophone. The concert was much enjoyed and will result in a profit of about £7, which will be devoted to the West End and Erankley Road school prize funds. A youth told the Auckland Magistrate that lie would not care to work for a certain man, as he was said to bo a "hard boss." "Hard boss," said Mr. Kettle, S.M., "that is just what you want. There appears to be an idea prevailing amongst the colonial youth of the present day that they can work when they like and loaf when thoy like. What you want, my boy, is discipline. He died in September of the present year, and up to that time he and his wile received from the lodge sums of money totalling £053 12a Bd, made up as follows:—Sick pay, £340 10s; grants out of benevolent fund, £2!)U Us (id; payments of contributions, £ll3 13s 2d. The lodge aso made a funeral allowance of £SO, bringing the total contributions up to £703 12s Bd.
