-Mi-, and Mrs. J. Smith, of the! Imperial Hotel, returned last night from a trip to Canterbury.

Constable C. Rowlands was married .yesterday to .Miss Partington, of New Plymouth. The honeymoon will be spent in the (South Island.

The Rev. F. G. Evans, who has been on a visit to Auckland to confer with Bishop Xeligan and Archdeacon Cole on matters pertaining to ihe Church in Tarainiki, returned by the Rarawa this morning. The Rev. Spencer (curate of Te Henui), whose health had of late considerably improved, and who was to have left the private hospital yesterday, lias, we regret to learn, had a relapse of a serious nature.

The death occurred on Monday of Mr. E. M. .lones, of Manaia, after an illness extending over six weeks. The deceased gentleman, who was s!) v vears of age, was horn in Canterbury; he resided for many years on the West Coast, and seventeen years ago removed to the Waimate district.
