-Mi-, and Mrs. J. Smith, of the! Imperial Hotel, returned last night from a trip to Canterbury.
Constable C. Rowlands was married .yesterday to .Miss Partington, of New Plymouth. The honeymoon will be spent in the (South Island.
The Rev. F. G. Evans, who has been on a visit to Auckland to confer with Bishop Xeligan and Archdeacon Cole on matters pertaining to ihe Church in Tarainiki, returned by the Rarawa this morning. The Rev. Spencer (curate of Te Henui), whose health had of late considerably improved, and who was to have left the private hospital yesterday, lias, we regret to learn, had a relapse of a serious nature.
The death occurred on Monday of Mr. E. M. .lones, of Manaia, after an illness extending over six weeks. The deceased gentleman, who was s!) v vears of age, was horn in Canterbury; he resided for many years on the West Coast, and seventeen years ago removed to the Waimate district.
Charles Win. Smith, a native of Denmark, died at Russell on Tuesday. Deceased was over 10.3 years of a«e a iul Imd settled in New Zealand in 18/8. Previously he followed the sea. Deceased chinned to have landed on the coast between Cape llrett and Moiigonui in the early twenties.
Dr. I'omare has been requested by a deputation of Taranaki natives to stand for the Western Maori seat at the next election, and will probably follow the example of his late colleague, Dr. Huck, in seeking Parliamentary honors on behalf of the Young Maori Party. .Mr. Kaihau is the sitting member. The Key. ,1. 0. Chapman, of Whiteley Chureh, leaves on Monday morning for Wanganui to attend the Synod, which opens on Tuesday, November ■>;), and concludes on the following Friday. From Wanganui Mr. Chapman proceeds to Opunake, where lie, will preach on Sun-1 day, November 28. Before returning to New Plymouth he will deliver several lectures in the coastal townships I
