OBITUARY.

The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. Fred Stohr, a well-known ; and very old and respected resident of New Plymouth, after a long and painful illness. The late Mr. Stohr came to New Plymouth about twenty-three years ago, and opened as a jeweller in premises now occupied by Mr. Healy's tailoring establishment. After some years' business he left for a while, and, J returning, set up in a tobacconist and 1 hairdressing business, continuing for some years'. In his young du* ; Mr. Stohr was a .prominent athlete. He earned his representative cap on the football field, playing in the to;, i which defeated Auckland in ISB7. lie was always a keen supporter of tho game, associating himself .closely with the Tukapa Club, in which he held office as vice-president, lie; was also the club's • I delegate to the Rugby Union. He was | also an enthusia-lic bowler, and was a member of the first team that the club sent to Auckland, More recently he interested him.-cli' iu racing circles, and owned a few good horses. He was also a member of the New i'lymoiith Borough Council, after a shuri u'.rm on its stalf. Latterly he has bad a very severe illness, being quite 'helpless- fulsome months, and death came as a re- '< lief. Mr. Stohr married a daughter of Mr. Edward Okey, who is left with three sons to mourn his loss.
