ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. By Telegraph.— Pr«M AisOcUtlOß. Christchurch, Last Night. This morning John McLean Bare,aged abuul. thirty years, attempted to take his life at tho residence ol his father, 42 Hazeldcn Jtotul, by cutting liis throat with a razor. Constable Potter visited the house in consequence of a call and found the man lying on a mattress in tlm kitchen, on which he had been placed by the people in the house. He had been attended by Dr. Talliot for some time. Only a few weeks ago the doctor recommended that lie should lie sent to a mental hospital. On being summoned to-day the doctor ordered his removal to the hospital. His condition is rattier serious, but it is thought that the wound indicted will not prove fatal.

Conductor Ashton is also progressing as satisfactorily as can be expected; likewise Allen, the prisoner, who was injured in the capsize of the pri-'on van last evening. MAX FOUND .SHOT. Wellington, Last Night. A man. who has not been identified, was found today in some bush near Kaiwarra, snirering from n bullet wound in the forehead. There was a revolver near inhere he lay. Ho i» now in a serious condition in the Wellington hospital.
