THE NEW DUTY.

• ANOTHER OBJECTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, November 13. The merchants have wired to the Premier as follows:-?-" Strongly urge you to reconsider question of collecting primage on goods now in bond. It will cause great trouble and annoyance. We believe there is precedent for exempting such goods when a similar impost was made in 188. The charge will bear unjustly on importers who, in many instances, will be unable to pass on to customers the trifling individual increased cost. We consider it much preferable that uhe required amount be raised by increased duty on selected articles. Bf, however, you decide that the tax is imperative, we urge that it should be collected on arrival of goods."
