THE HOSPITALS BILL. By Telegrupn.—Press Association. Wellington, November 13. After midnight, during the debate on the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Bill, on clause 02 Mr. Russell oi>jdcted to the proviso that no new institution should be established or other structural alteration costing over £loit, without notice in ■writing to the Minis-' tcr and moved to delete the same. On J a division being taken the amendment | was lost toy 29 votes to 28.
On the suggestion of Sir William Stew-j ard the amount in, the clause was altered from £IOO to £250, with the concurrence of the Minister. Mr. Allen moved to amend clause 04 in the direction of substituting " board" for " inspector general" as the authority ■whose duty it is to decide what provision is necessary in regard to persona suffering from infectious diseases. The Hon. M. Fowlds said the clause was intended to prevent boards from '. failing to make the necessary provision < in such cases, which had caused consider- i able trouble in many districts. ] The amendment was rejected by 32 i votes to 20.
