"The best sale ever held in Wellington" sums up accurately to-day's wool Bale, the first of the Wellington eeries for the 1909-10 season. The splendid range of values set at Napier was fully maintained, taking quality for quality. There were offered 2800 bales. Prices on the Triiole were to Id better than they wore at the opening sale of last season. -■!.• extreme prices up to ■were for very light conditioned halfbreds. Good bright crossbreds went from 10!4d to Is', accsrding to condition; ordinary to medium from 8y 2 d to 9'/id. Coarse crossbreds 7%d to B'/ 2 d. The sale was remarkable for the very few lots passul in. Buyers were present in Stronger force than ever before. When prices above Bradford limits and came within the American range the bidding was left to the several operators for American houses, and if wool possessed the desired .lightness in condition the limit price was given. The heavier conditioned and light conditioned but non-skirted parcels were left"to the JSradford and local buyers, and here the competition was strong enough to secure prices on « full p.irity with London values. The prices averaged as under:— unrepresented last year, to-day !)'/ 2 d to lOd; lialf-breds, last year 7d to Bd, this year !)%d to Wfyl"; superline eross-breds, last year 7'/ 2 <l to Bd, this year to 13d; medium cross-breds, last year fi'/id to 7%d, this year 8d to lOd: coarse cross-breds, Inst- year (id to «%d, this 1 year 7<l to O'/jd; inferior cross-breda, last year i'//i to Ud, this .year 7d to 8d; bellies, lost year 2d to 3%, this year H to U'/»d; locks, last year Id to 2y 4 d, this year to 4Vid.
