CLIFTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEEIINU. The monthly meeting of the above Council ua s acid on Friday. Present; Crs. J. W. Foreman (chairman), Julian, McKeuzie, O',Sullivan, Hunter, Kenniuglon and Sander. ENtiiNEMi'S IUSPUUT. Waihi jviding: Arrangements iiave been made lo resume crushing opera* j tious at Waipaua oil -Monday next, j Tenders are also colled for feeding; crusher, and carting stone from Onaero. I'. Marsh has, in addition,! about 45u yards of boulders stacked op- { posite (irnuam's, and I 1 should like, if possible, lo see the work continuous and the three depots cleaned up. The Borough Council have kindly lent us their road plough for picking up metal, which should mean a living ol about ."iO per cent, in thi* class of work. Tikorangi Hiding: The uninetalled | portion of WestV Hill is showing signs I of wear, and should bo crowned up. i The Council are also requested to lav- I ' ourably consider making the metal eon-1 tinuous from Sarten's to the top ol Ihe hill. The Otaraoa road plans are completed with the exception of obtaining consents, which 1 am now attending to, and vouchers for compensation for land are certitiod to. Ngatimaru Biding: l.'rozier has liccu steadilv hauling boulders under his con-

tract. and expects shortly to complete | the napping. lie i* prepared to perform similar work at tlie >.ame price oil (lie Oapui road, payment for which would j come out of loan money. J. X. Xeilson | has completed in a satisfactory manner i the large culvert 011 the Junction Komi, ! and Prosser is attending to details not i under the contract. J. Pennington lias I carried out a large amount of stripI ping for his metalling contract, ami exI peels to proceed therewith in a few j days. I recommend that a further live chains he covered to make the metal continuous to the pit. The estimated cost is 1;€50. The work requested hv the Purangi s'ohool committee 011 Tuniai street will cost about £5. Rolfe has been sanding 011 the Matau saddle, where the material is handy, and after will employ drays to complete the work. The Council are again requested to 'iave tenders called for a girder bridge 011 the North -Matau road, and also to consider the suggested County boundary alterations as proposed by Whangamomona County. Urcnui Hiding: On the Okoke road, a somewhat, serious subsidence has occurred oil the south approach to Colson's bridge, necessitating fairly expensive sheet piling being required to prevent a similar recurrence. After consultation with councillors, it was decided to at once order the timber, and arrangement* were made with \V. Clare | to immediately put the work in hand at l current rates. Various other slips have , occurred alnn# the road, and the permanent man has' been instructed to have them cleared oil'. On the Piko road. Fkdahl and Kenwood report having pushed 011 with their formation detract. Mokau Riding: Further metalling has been proceeded with from the face at the 2(ith mile peg, the total output being about 420 yards. Evetts lias been obtaining stone for James and Co.'s contract, and has so far spawle-i about 200 yards. The roads are last drying up, and the contractors would be well advised to return to Uruti at an early date. Wai-iti deviation: Five dilTerent ostimat.es were submitted in this connection, and J understand the one decided upon runs through the native reserve. Three dilVereut consents will

have to bo obtained before much head*way can be made. As part, of t'le scheme appears to be to give access to Mr. Parson's property across the swamp, including metal, and also an outlet to the Wai-ili beach, neither of which were included in the estimate or route accepted, it would, on the face of it. appear that the money would -till bo insufficient to form and completely metal the new routes. It k ju-i a question whether the proposed expenditure would not be used to belter advantage in improving and metalling all the hills. (!rader work : llffore the grader goes into commission. the Council are requeued to formulate some itinerary to work upon, witli the strong reromnieii* dation that. the Ohanga road lir>t receives attention. The machine should al>o traverse the whole length of Cue Otarao : i road, improving same where possible: and should then take the whole length of the Atawa road. AI/miATIOX OF l!0l'.\l)AHIi;s.
