By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Two prisoners Appeared before Mr. 1 JiHice Chapman in the Supreme <wurt \esterdav for sentence. In the ease of hdgar Joseph fiercer, who had pleaded guilty to theft, Mr. T. M. Wilford asked tor a remand until the opening of the mmmal session on the 15th November. He wished to call considerable evidence 0)i behalf of prisoner, and had 60 arranged, Mr. Wilford tendered to Mr. I'V,!. who represented the Crown, the amount prisOne r admitted having stolen viz., .138 18s lid. Prisoner was granted ' bail on remand. I
Coetello appeared on a charge o f breaking and entering and theft. Pi isoner had nothing to say. His Honor observed that the probation officer's report was distinctly unfavorable, p nnt he thought (he Court could occasionally take some risk. None of accused's of« Alices were serious, and the Court had decided in place him on probation, but m would be for a considerable period. He must put that aside once and for all. Mere Abstention from crime would not fulfil the conditions of probation. Oostello was admitted to three years' probation, and he was or-d-red to pay .-CI compensation to the person from whom the money (two halfsovereigns) was stolen, and €5 towards •the costs of the prosecution.
