A mass meeting of miners, representins' Cardiff, Waratah, Durham, New La'mbton, Shortland, and llurwood tended collieries, adopted the .Miners' .1) legate Hoard resolution recommending that no more work be done until redress of .ill grievances is obtained. THE .MINERS' DECISION. STRIKE COMMENCES TO DAY. BUSINESS COMMUNITY TAKEN' BY SURPRISE. Received Nov. 8, 1.10 a.m. Sydney, Last Sight. All the northern'miners' lodges, with the exception of two which have vet to meet, decided (o strike. There is no prominent grievance on which tile decision rests, but the grievances are numerous.

The executive of the Coal Lumpers' Union met to-night and decided to hold a meeting on Monday to enahle a common understanding to be arrived at on the coal trouble, in order that all members shall have a voice in the ultimate decision.

It was decided that work shall cease between 8 and 2 o'clock to-morrow. It is a pretty solid belief that the miners will bfl supported by the wharf laborers, who also meet to-morrow to discuss the situation.

The crisis has taken the business com. rnunity by surprise. Although discos tent iins been simmering in the Newcastle district for some time, active measures were not anticipated.
