jubilee celebrations. ' jjy Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, Monday. The Governor arrived on Saturday night, and is the guest of Mr, Vavasour, at Uirbrooke, coming into town to-day and to-morrow. About forty members of Parliament came across to Picton on the Tutanekai, and were in town to-day. They visited Ship Cove en route, and inspected the site of the proposed Con* monument. Special sermons wero preached in all the churches yesterlty, Archbishop Redwood being one of the preachers, and a public thanksgiving service was held in the Town Hall in tho afternoon.
The jubilee celebrations opened inausplciously. Heavy rain commenced to fall about 0 o'clock, and still continue. As a result the procession from a spectacular point of view suffered considerably, and the children's fete, set down for the afternoon, had to be postponed. The Governor arrived in town shortly after 10 o'clock, and took part in a large procession.
Later. The procession contained about a dozen traction-engines filled with children. In the market-place four little girls presented an address to the Goveinor, who with the Mayor, made short ipeeches. A banquet followed in honor Of the old identities. The town was gaily decorated, and thousands thronged the streets, despite the rain. Blenheim has never seen such a concourse before. Blenheim, Last Night. The jubilee celebrations' to-day wen an unprecedented success, inducing a record crowd of residents and visitors from other parts. Over twenty members of Parliament participated in the ceremonies, and also the Mayors of Dunedin, Nelson, and North-East Valley. Heavy rain marred the gubernatorial function in the market place, and, after Lord Plunket had replied to an addre-s of welcome, the speechifying was postponed to the Old Identities' banquet in the Town Hall in the afternoon. At that banquet the speakers included His Excellency the Governor, Hons. McKenzie and Buddo, and Messrs. Masscy, Laurenson, Parata, J. Allen and J. Duncan. Other celebrations of the day were bullock-roasting by the Maoris, the cantata "Magna" in the Town Hall, and a fireworks display. The Governor was entertained at 4 Masonic banquet in
the evening, and will attend the A. and P. Show to-morrow. The majority of .. the Parliamentary party returned to Wellington.
