WAITARA.
At a committee meeting of the Clif--I:mi Rowing Club held on Wednesday evening it was decided to purchase four bouts under oiler from the Wangai'.m Rowing Club—a clinker four, two pairoar, and one single scull. Color-Sergeant Lister has been appointed drum-major for the Waitara Municipal Band, and last evening he hju t'ne baud out for military instruction, with a view of getting into trim for the furthcoming band contest at Wangauui. At the .Methodist Church on Wednesday morning a very pretty wedding was celebrated, when Miss Gladys Langdou | Elliot, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. Elliot, was married to Mr. Join Bertie Murgatroyd. The church was nicely decorated 'with flowers and ferns by the friends of the bride, who was given away by her father and was attended by her sister, Miss Rita Elliot. Mr. Vasey Tate filled the position of best man. The ccremonj was performed by the Rev. F. T. Eei'd. Mr. 11. Joll oiliciated at the organ and played t,ie Wedding March. The bride's dress was of white silk, and that of the bridesmaid pink silk, both being the gift of an u '(ic. The bridegroom's present to the bride waj a gold bangle set with diamonds and rubies, and to the bridesmaid a gold brooch. At the close of the ceremony a number of guests were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Elliot. The health of the newly-married couple was •proposed by Mr. 11. joll. The bridal puir were tile recipients of a large number of valuable presents, both useful and ornamental. Mr.-and Mrs. Murgatroyd left by t-ie mid-day train for Eltham, wiicrc the honeymoon is to be spent.
EGMOXT VILLAGE. Wc hear at limes of serious strife between the teachers and school committees in some parts of Tnranaki, but I am pleased to say that in Egmont Village school matters run very smoothly. («i Monday evening hist the members of the school committee met by invitation at the residence of the schoolmistress, Mrs. Dewhirst, ami a very pleasant evening ■«"!;* spent Cribbnge was indulged in, I'lizcs being won by Messrs. Baxter and J. IT. MeGec. Various "ocal items were also rendered by scvcra'i members of th ( . committee. During the evening Mr. Barker, chairman of the committee, Uuitnbly returned thanks to Mr. Dewhirst.
There is every prospect o'f a splendid 'oiison for local farmers. The milk supply is abnut ljnnib more daily than a I !h> time last vear.
A nieelinif of the local Mutual Im lii-iveineii! Society will lie held on Thursday cvenhg. 28th October, when a vei'v inioresthiL' debate will he held. The siih-ici-i elios.-n is. "Should Capital Punishment be Abolished?" The final meeting for this season will be held earlv in November.
