TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
The Taranaki Land Board met at Tauuiaruiiui ou the 2Utk instant, and after a .persona! examination of applicants for actions in. the Mapara, Taugitu, and I .•uia survey districts, opened for allotment under the Improved Farm Regulations recently issued, the ballot wus conducted by the Commissioner of Crown Lands in the presence of the Board, amongst the married landless applicants. Xhi. available sections, which have been surveyed into areas varying from 111) to 2M> acres, were allotted to eiglity-cigH iiuirricd men, who with their wives and families will mean the early settlement of a large number of persons on the land in this" locality. Great interest was taken in Hie proceedings by the large number ot applicants present, and those fortunate enough to obtain sections expressed their satisfaction in a very decided manner. The land at present is accessible bv tracks from Wauncna railway station and the Waimeha-Ongarne I road, which is distant from eight to »..«Mileen miles. These tracks will in til,- ordinary course be formed into bridle ami cart loads. The land generally is of a very good class, mostly covered witn mixed finest, with patches of fern and grass, ami when brought into cultivation should prove very siiitubl,. for dairying and other farming pursuits. It was only a few months ago that instructions were issued to the Commissioner of Lands in Taranaki to select and prepare suitable blocks for the settlement of persons on land under the regulations above referred to, and sin-.e that date 111,921 acres in two bloekscompri'inj; 121 sections have been provisionally s~urvcved, the necessary roads located, and the sections all allotted,
