LABOR CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. The Labor Conference to-day passed 0 resolution requesting the executive to consider the question of additional representation at the all-British Labor con. fevences and to report to individual councils for instructions. The Wellin"to n remit, "That in view of the stead'y increase m the ranks of the unemployed, W conference be requested to consider the question of unemployment and to suggest methods for the immediate clucking of the increase and for the alleviation of distress amongst unemployed •nmkers," was carried. It was also 'deeded, on a recommendation from Auckland, to urge the Government to brin» down a Right-to-Work Bill. •■•u tt Wellington, Last Night. lne Hon. J. Barr moved that State farms should be established and a comprehensive system of State re-afforesta-tion instituted where the unemployed Should have a right to claim employment at a living wage. Mr. Barr said that Bt presenj afforestation work was being done by law-breakers. Therefore, it would be better for an honest man to break the law than keep it if he wanted to obtain employment. The motion was carried.
Resolutions were also passed urging the State to subsidise trades unions or other organisation which would ensure their members against unemployment, urging the need for legislation establishing a weekly day of rest, and asking for a Royal Commission on the best means to prevent the evil of unemployment.
