The iitteuilnnce was large, buyers being present from Auckland and down me line as far as Hawera. The class offered were not representative of the best quality of horses .vo have in the district. There were a few good sorts, hut the majority were only ordinary. Kidding was brisk for anything slowing quality, and good prices were, realised for this class; but ill cousequenci' of vendors' ideas of values in ordinary -sorts being in excess of present market rates, a good many were passed in. £4 14s. At Stratford on Tuesday there was li full yarding of cattle, over 2000 head being penned. There was a good attendance of buyers, and bidding was brisk throughout. On the same day at Strafford the springing heifer yards were, •full. There
was a large attendance of buyers, and good. prices were realised. Springing heifers close up made £5 to £7 15s, backward do. £3 ss' to £4 15s, springing cows C(i to £8 15s, backward do. D to to 10s. On Wednesday at Okau I held my opening cattle sale. The yards were, full ami the attendance was large, including several outside buyers. Ridding from the start was brisk, and nearly every line sold at. the hammer at very satisfactory prices. ADDINSTON. At tho Addington live stock market on Wednesday there were good entries of stock and a large attendance. Fai cattle were easier, as were also store sheep, but f»t lambs showed, a marWd
rise in price, and fat sheep sold at Armor I rates. Store and dairy cattle also sol I well, but pigs were down several shil-1 liiigs per head. The yarding of fat cattle totalled 277 licad, or 40 odd more than last week. There was a good .proportion of prime quality, but the demaid was not very active, and prices were, on the whole, rather easier, except for prime steers. The range of prices was: Steers £G 17s (Id to AMI 10s, heifers £5 10s to £8 15s, cows £4 17s Gd to £8 2s Gil—equal to 23s for prime, Ills to 20s Gd for medium, and 17s to 18s Gil for cow and inferior lieef per 1001b. , There was a large yard, iiig of store cattle, including a conaiginicnt from Southland, but the bulk were in low condition. There was, however, a good demand.
