BAPTIST CONFERENCE.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Ust Night. The election of ollieers for the ensuing year occupied the llaptist Union Conference now in session for the greater part of to-dav. Mr. A. 1". Carey, president of Ihe Union, presided. Among other questions considered was the extending of the benefits of the Annuity Fund i<> home missionaries. The report of tIH committee charged with the amending of the regulations governing the fund was delivered by Mr. A. S. Adams, and was adverse to the proposal. The report was adopted. Mr. John Nicol moved in accordance with notice: "That the Sunday School Committee be requested to prepare for presentation to the next conference on the whole question of improved methods in the teaching and working of the schools, particularly in relation to the establishment of 'normal classes tor teachers, and bringing the schools into jnore prominence in our church life." The motion was adopted. The election of ollieers resulted as follows: President, Rev. W. Hay (Duned'm); vice-president, Mr. A. Chidgey (C'hristchure'h); secretary, Jlev. R. S.Ylniy (Cliristchurch); treasurer, Mr. A. F. Carey (Christchuvch); "New Zealand Baptist" editor, Mr. H. H. Driver (re-elected); manager, Mr. .1. R. Carey; recorder and registrar, Mr. W. R. Rolh'y (re-elected); financial secretary, Eev Chas. lloyall (re-elected); Union preaclicr, Rev. J. K. Archer (Napier) j deputy Unuon preacher, Rev. Stanley Jenkin; Annuity Fund secretary, Mr. H. M. Smcaton (Auckland); Annuity Fund treasurer, Mr. \V. H. Ccorge (Wellington; reelected); convenor Board of Advice and Introduction, Rev. A. North (Auckland); Union solicitor, Mr. A. S. Adams; auditors (as for the previous year). Committers were elected as follows: Annuity Fund, Messrs A. S. Adams, T. K. Toiicyeliffc, W. Spedding, W. HI Lamb and A. F. Carev; Manse Fund, Messrs TI. M. Smecton', S. R. Ingold, G. ('.. I'.arliek, C. Cathie, 11. Lamb and Drew; students, Rev. J. J. North and A. Williams (conveners), R. S. Gray, A, S. Wilson, and A. Dewdney; general, Revs. J. J. North, 11. Knowles, Kempton, A. Dcwdnev, A. North, A. S. Wilson, 0. Dallasto'n, F. G. Buckingham, E. A. Kirwood, and Messrs A. R. Adams, H. M. Smecton, H. H. Driver, W. H. George .1. Careon, A. Uoby, R. Milligan, Chas. Cathie anc( J. K. Archer; Sunday School and Young People's (as for the previous year; miscellaneous business, Messrs W. Nicol (Wellington), W. Blick (Ncj<ion), A. McHutehcson (Cavcrsham). Mr. W. Edish and Capt. Cummings (Cisbornc) were elected personal members of the Union. Tile Bible Class Union was invited to send delegates to the next Assembly. Tt was unanimously decided to ho'd the next conferenc at Duncdin.
A resolution was carried expressing profound pleasure at the formation of a Bible Class Union and wished both its branches rapid griwtn. 'The Baptist Conference passed a resolution expressing deep indignation at tile patronage given to gambling by two Ministers of the Crown, by their* presence at the opening of Tattevsan"« Club in this city, and their defence of I gambling.
