. FREIGHT ON SHOW EXHIBITS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christehurch, Last Night. At the last conference of the Agricultural and Pastoral Associations of New Zealand, a remit from Otago was adopted: "That all exhibits consigned to a show should, without any certificates, be carried at quarter rates, and that all such exhibits or part thereof, if rcturn"d to the original sending station within a certain time, be also charged quarter rate; returning stock to be consigned .by the Association at whose show stock was exhibited, who would be responsible to the Railway Department that only original exhibits or part thereof were returned." The matter was brought under the notice of the Minister if Railways, and a message has been received by Mr. A. Chamberlain, president of the Canterbury A. and P. Association, from Mr. R. Heaton Rhod»s, | M.P., to the effect that the Minister regretted he could- not see hTs way to give effect to the recommendation of the conference regarding the carriage of show exhibits.

Thomson, S.M Claude Retter and Charles Cannon, alias Cripps, alias Watson, were charged witn being idle and disorderly persons Retter swore that he owned a trotting horse, and hail £4O in the Post Office Saving Bank. The case was adjourned lor a short time to allow enquiries to pe made, when it was found that his statement was false, and he was sentenced to three months' imprisonment An information was then laid a«nin«t him for perjury, and he was remanded till Monday next. Cannon was also convicted and sentenced to three months' A charge of theft was preferred against him of stealing clothing and goods 10 the value of f! from the residence of tieorge Ransford, of Palmerston. and '». was remanded till Monday. "Ett'e White, a woman who had been livin» with Retter and Cannon, was charged with vagrancy, and remanded to the same date. The evidence showed that Cannon especially had been oonsortin<» «'Hi thieves, and had served five years for assault anil robbery, and had several other convictions against him.
