The newspaper Engineering stale* tliut the Admiralty is inviting tenders for the four contingent Dreadnoughts, returnable on November sth. The ships are to be laid down in January, which is earlier than h sometimes the ciue with vessels on the ordinary programme, while the conditions include severe penalties if uncompleted by March 31, 1012. Firms have been asked to quote for battleships, similar to the new Fortsmouth vessel and also for a cruiser of the new Indefatigable class but larger mid with more lighting power and more powerful Parsons' turbine* than any cruiser yet constructed. Some ships are to be fitted with 13.5 gum, not because of their longer range —as the 12in satisfied this, owing to tile limits of vision—but for striking power. The guns will Are a projectile of 13501bs and .possess muzzle energy of between 00,000 and 70,000 foot tons.
