The Daily Telegraph's Constantinople correspondent reports that the Porte lias refused the Powers' demand for compensation for lusses arising out n< | the Adaua massacres, alleging that tie I troubles constituted case of force majeure. It was officially admitted that 18,000 Christians were slaughtered at tho massacres at Adana and that 50 had been condemned to death as the result of an enquiry.
