Mr. Cran», the newly appointed American Minister at Pekin, who was suddenly stopped by the American Secretary of State on the eve of his departure from New York, and who WRt requested to resign, has issued a statement alleging that President Taft 'n- -■ stmeted him in discussing the commercial and political situation in the Far East to make his uttsrances "red hot."* He is supposod to have been responsible for the publication, of an article stating that America intended to protest against Japan's recent action in regard to Manchuria.
