Mr. J. If. Upton suggested that he resolution might be withdrawn, as it had served its uso in promoting the debate on the subject. He had no objection lo standing in his nlace in church when the clergy came in. Still he lwd a distinct objection to standing tip for quite a long time watching a procession of small boys in surplices who probably the day before had been robbing his orchard. (Laughter). The Rev. Cecil Watson (vicar of St. Paul's) said the movement they had boon speaking about had come and would continue to came, notwithstanding Synod resolutions and such like.
Bishop Neligan remarked thai it had been said during the debate the previous day that a clergyman had Liken , a young girl out of a confirmation class, taken her into his study, bade her kn d down and confess her sins. If that had taken place he could only say that the man was a fool. There could be vo doubt of it. ife hoped, however, t'ut if it were the case that if could be proved not to have taken place in the diocese. ]!,. had never asked a man coming into the diocese during the past three or four years what a man's practice in connection with ritualism was. "I do nol.belive," concluded his Lordship, "that any man has anv right either to add or detract or to substraet from (he ritual of any sort or mode of conducting his services without the eonsent of the majority of his communicants."
Permission was then asked to withdraw the motion and was granted.
