THE MISSING DUCO.
AN UNIDENTIFD STEAMER SEEN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The tramp steamer Lodorcr, which put into Wellington for coal on Saturday, passed an unidentified steamer last Thursday to the north-westward of tin, Chatham?. The chief officer states that the size of the vessel could not be distinguished in the. dnrk, but she was stcamhg eastward. An unusually strong light occupied the place of an anchor light. After the .steamer was abeam she burned a blue light and a few moments after sent up a rocket.
The Lodorcr failed to understand the signal, which was taken to be a private one, and answered with a blue light to indicate that they laid been observe!. The Lodorer attached no special significance to the incident, " The steamer Ripple is due at Lvttelton to-morrow or Wednesday. Her arrival is anxiously waited for news concerning the missing Dnco. AN EXPLANATION. Wellington. List Night. The Marine Department is of opinion that the vessel seen by the steamer Lodorer on Thursday night, which it ha* been suggested mav have been the Dnco was probably the Amokura, which would be in that vicinity at the time.
