At Kaponga on Wednesday Mr. t*. l\ Wake, solicitor of KlLham, was married to Miss (liven Knight, eldest daughter of Mr. J. P. Knight, of liiverlea. Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., was prevented by an attack of inlluenza from attending the opening of Parliament, but will leave for Wellington ou Monday.
Mrs. Kejr, who was murdered bv a lunatic at Dargaville last week, was at one time a resident of New Plymouth, and, .Miss Phoebe Smythe, is'remembered by many of the older residents. Mrs. Kejr was a daughter of the late Sergeant John Arthur Smythe, of H.M. 14th Regiment, and lived here for many years before removing to the North, where Smythe still resides.
Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., returned to New Plymouth on Tuesday from the baikblucks of the Tauinarunui constituency. During his visit he opened a bridge at Kopua, near Piroiigia. Chief' at Plymouth since 1008. lie was educated at St. John's College, Cam .bridge, and entered the Royal Navy in 1800. In November, 1807, he was appointed lieutenant; in 1880 commander, and six years later captain. He commanded the Roval Yacht Osborne from 1884 to 188(1, H.MIS. Raleigh 1888 to 1800, Mercury 1893 to 1800, Terrible 18%, and Canopus 1800 to 1000. The Admiral was Naval Adviser to the In-spector-General of Jfyrtilieat/ons from 1801 to 1802, A.D.C. to Queen Victoria I from 1800 to 1001, and private secretary
to tho First Lord of the Admiralty 1807 to 1890 and 1000 to 1002. He was rear-
admiral commanding toe cruiser squadron from 1002 to 1004, and Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Station from 1903 to 1008. Admiral Fawkes will be 03 years of age next December.
