The School Committee meeting lapsed for want of a quorum on Monday evening. The following report was submitted by the headmaster:— "During the month of September the roll number has slightly decreased, and is now 2(12, but the average was fairly .well maintained, being 2Sti for the month. The average for July and September quarter wuu 23!).;!, which, 1 think you will agree, is highly satisfactory. The school i s urgently in need of a shelter-shed; even the smallest country schools possess one of some description; moreover, the school is so overcrowded at present that the rooms need to he cleared and left open at regular intervals during the day, in order to give free access to the fresh air. I have arranged with Mr. Sandford, of the New Plymouth Technical School, to allow the'boys to make club stands, which can be screwed on to the walls in the porches. I shall defray all expenses as regards timber, brackets, etc. Two of the swings in the girls' playground aiv quite unsafe for use, and f think the younger girls would appreciate it very much if the committee would have these swings repaired. I notice that the Government is.encouraging rifle, shooting amongst school cadets by granting subsidies for the erection of miniature ranges in connection with schools, ft would be very advantageous I if we had one alongside the school, for the cadets would be able to practice at least once a week.'' The W.iitara Bowing Club propose building a new shctfr The structure is to be similar to the Clifton Rowing Club shed. Owing lo the unsettled state of the weather, the llunieipal Band decided to postpone their sale of work and concert at Tikovangi on Thursday evening until further notice.
