PALMERSTON MILITARY TOURNAMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmcrston N., Last Night.
A meeting in connection with the military tournament completed arrangements for the biggest tournament yet held in New Zealand. Teams are mow assured from Auckland, Waikato, Wanganui, Taranaki, and other centres. In many cases several teams are coming from the same town. A large contingent of the Royal navy is also assured, and representatives of the Commonwealth Press 'have also been invited. SLIPS IN TillE MANAWATU GORGE. Palmcrston N., Last Night. Very heavy rains have fallen to-day, hut especially over the Ruahincs. In consequence another large slip came down in the middle of the Manaw.itu Gorge, blocking all traffic. From 5.30 p.m. trains were stopped at AsMmrsl ami Woodville. Gangs arc now at work. It is ho|H'd to get the line clear to 'Jsame railway communication to-morrow forenoon.
A STEAMER MISSING. Wellington, October 5. The Wellington Harbor Ferries Company's steamer Duco, Captain J. Abram, 20 tons net, Which left here on September 7 on a second fishing expedition to the Chathams, had not arrived there up to the time the steamer Alexander started on her return trip to Wellington on Saturday night. The Alexander took down a cargo of coal for the Duco.
