AJ.C. MEETING. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Received October 4, 5.40 p.m. Randwick Racecourse, Oct. 4. The second day's racing in connection ■with the AJ.O. meeting took place today. The weftther was fine and the going good, and there was a big attendance. Provocation's defeat caused much disappointment. Shorts.—Plush 1, Bright Steel 2, llaco 3. Nineteen started. The winner, holding a good place all the way, shot out in the straight and won by two lengths.
Time, lmin. 13see. New Stakes.—lSequarious 1, Tatronatus 2, Provocation 3. Eight starters. Provocation was best away, followed by Brookong and Sheen. At seven furlongs Brookong headed Provocation, and led the New Zealander and Patronatus .to the hall mile. Provocation was first round the turn, but Patronatus led into tbo straight, followed by Provocation, Sheen, and Golden City. The winner came with an unexpected rim at tbo distance, and won a good race by a length, two lengths being between second and third. Time, lmin. 54sec. (Metropolitan.—Maltine (Osborne) 1, Olivaster (Lamond) 2, Golden Slipper (Hickey) 3. Higinan, Diplomatist, Sil verhampton, Black Buck, ami aimeviiov were scratched. From a good start the first to show out was Maltine, followed by Hayfield, Didus, Lord Xolan, llono bel and Golden Slipper. Before reaching the mile, Hayfield took the lead froir Gidyea, Maltine, and Golden Slipper Hayfield nas still leading at .-ix fur longs, Gidyea second, followed by Ker lie, Maltine and Golden Slipper. At t'n< half-mile Hayfield had Kerlie as nearer attendant, with Gidyea and Golden Slip per in close attendance. Golden Slippei went to the front at three furlongs, fol lowed by Olivaster and Iverlie, the res of the field bunched well up. lioldei Slipper and Olivaster entered thi straight on terms, Kerlie, Flavinius am Maltine following in that order. Golde; Slipper 'held command at the distance followed by Olivaster, Maltine am Flavinius coming fast. Maltine fough out a good finish and won by three quarters of a length, Olivaster beatri; Golden Slipper by half a length. Tim< 2miu.-33 1 / 2 sec.
First Steeple.—Squirm (10.8) 1, Severely (10.8) 2, Bullworth (10.12) 3. Of the six starters only the three placed hones finished. Seymour was prominent to the last obstacle, where lie fell. Won in a canter by seven lengths, the third beaten off. Time, smin. 48sec. Breezers' Plate.—Desert Rose 1, Gigandra 2, Precious 3. Twenty-two start-1 ed. The placed horsies were in the front j Tank and led throughout. Precious led I Gigandra and Desert Rose into tlic| Straight. A clattering finish, won by half a neck, Precious a length and a half away. Time, lmin. iy 2 sec. Squatters' Handicap.—Loyal Blue (7.7) 1, Grey Plume (7.0) 2, Black (Buck (7.5) 3. Twenty-one started. Won by a length. Time, 2mfn. Bsec.
; OLIVASTER SOLD. Received October 4, 0.28 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. Prior to the running of the second Metropolitan, Olivaster was purchased by R. Casey, of Melbourne, for IOOOga.
