Mr. W. G. Kenrick, S.M., now stutjoned at Gore, is to be transferred! to HiWera, vice the late Mr. Turnbull. Amongst tie passengers by the itorawa last night were the Rev. C. Jordan (Mayor of Tauranga), the Rev. F. G. Evans (Viear of St. Mary's), and other Taranaki Anglican clergymen, who are i attending the Anglican Synod, which [opens at Auckland this week.
Mr. John Brown, postmaster at Carterton, is retiring from the service after forty years' official work. He first entered the postal service in 1869, in tho North of Ireland, and left there for New Zealand in 187(1, arriving in Port Chalmers. lie entered the New Zealand service on January Ist, 1877. Mrs. Cromliic, relict of the late Mr. Charles Melville Crombie, formerly Commissioner of Taxes in New Zealand, died I at her residence, Wellington, oil Sunday, | after an illness extending over a period of three months. She leaves seven sons and six daughters, among the former oeing Mr. M, J. Crotnbie, of Ingle wood. At the age of seventy-eight years Mr*. Sarah Jane Cleveland died at the Thames last week. Her husband wis Captain George H. Cleveland, who was drowned in Wellington harbor when going off *o his schooner one dark'night. They had two sons (both of whom too'-* to the sea), the elder also losing his I life by drowning. Out of 4!) applicants for the position of manager of the Cavcrsham Industrial School, Dunedin, Miss Maude Keinpton lias been selected for* the appointment. Miss 'Kempton is at present in charge of the Children's Home at Remuera, her management of which has given grert satisfaction and she has had a large experience in work of a similar character ;it Home.—Press wire, A cable message from Melbourne the other day announced the death, in his seventy-eighth year, of Mr. Daniel M. Becrc, formerly in the New Zealand Government service. He dropped dead as be was entering a church at Kew. ilr. Beere w«e connected with the Public Works Department here for many years, but some time ago took up his residence in Australia. He was a single man, and had a brother in Gisborne.
At the quarterly meeting of the members of Court Taranaki, A.0.F., the following resolution was carried unanimously:—"That the Court desire 6 to express its regret at the intended departure from the Taranaki district of D.C.lv. Bro. C. B. Lever, and places on record its high appreciation of his services as one of the trustees of the Court. In tendering Bro. Lever the thanks of the Court tho members feel that they are losing one of the best and most honorable of their members, and trusts that the change of domicile may be in every respect beneficial."
