BUTCHER MULCTED IX ,1100 DAMAGES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, Friday. Mr. McCarthy, S.M., gave his reserved judgment in the ease England v. O'Neill, a claim of £l5O damages sustained in consequence of the defendant conducting the business of a pork butcher so as to create a nuisance. Plaintiff occupied the upstairs of a building in which he carried on the business ol dining rooms. Defendant, on the ground floor, manufactured small goods in connection with his trade. Plaintiff's health broke down through the offensive smell, and he gave up the business. The Magistrate said with even the care and skill used and without proof of actual injury to health the defendant was still liable. Judgment was for plaintiff for £IOO and costs £l4 Bs.

VIOLATING LIQUOR LAWS. Masterton, Friday. In the ease in which the charge was sending liquor into a no-license area without a proper label, evidence showed that aocused bought two demijohns of beer at Carterton, each containing two gallons, addressed one to himself and one to his mate. These he placad in a sack and addressed it to Masterton, but did not state on the label that the sack contained liquor. Accused was lined £5 and costs in default one month's imprisonment.

DEFYING A MAGISTRATE. Auckland, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day, Daniel Ryan, who had been three times 'previously convicted of cruelty to animals, the last time by Mr. Cutten for slitting pigs' ears; made his appearance on the charge again to-day. It was stated by Mr. Sehnauer, who appeared for the prosedition, that the man was.' simply drfving the Magistrate's decision. A fine of and .C2 lis fid costs was imposed.
