THE BEER DUTY ACT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. In a declaratory judgment given by Judge Chapman to-day, his lionor ruled that section 17 of the Beer Duty Act, 1908, did not prohibit publicans, who bring beer in casks 'from brewers with stamps duly affixed and cancelled, from selling thereafter such beer in jars or casks in quantities from two gallons upwards. SALE OF WINE, Auckland, Tuesday. At the Police Court to-day, George Franeovitch was fined £25 and costs for selling wine without a license. Mr. Cutten, S.M., Tn-replying to the defenlant's solicitor, being a wholesale wine merchant, was entitled to have a iarge quantity of wine on his promises, but declined to make an order for tlio return of a large quantity of liquor selised by the police. Notice of appeal wjs given.
