Preparations for tho civic welcome to the Prime Miniate* on his return from the Imperial Defence Conference are being actively forwarded, and the detailed programme has been arranged by the reception committee. H. M. S. Challenger, with the Prime Minister aboard, will arrive in Auckland at 1 p.m. 011 Thursday, and the landing will I probabl.v take place at 3 o'clock. In the military parade from the rnan-o-war steps, 'JOO cadets and 500 volunteers are expected to take part. Veterans, under Captain Archer, will form a guard of honor at the landing stage. Several bands will lie in attendance. The landing stage will be decorated by the Harbour Board, and Sir .Joaupli, on arrival at the man-o-war steps will be received by the Mayor (Mr. C. D. Grey) and the chairman of the Ilarbor Board (the Hon. E. Mitchelson). There will be a large gathering of Parliamentarians, and business people have been invited to observe a half holiday.
