A fierce southerly gale is raging along the whole coastline. The American schooner Alpema, from Melbourne, is lying in a critical situation at anchor off Stockton beach, Newcastle. A lifeboat went out and took off the captain's wife, and made a eecoud trip, taking off the captain and crew of 13. While crossing, the life-boat overturned, hut the towing steamer rescued all hands with difficulty.
