THEIR HOLIDAYS AND TRAVELLING EXPENSES. By Telegraph.—Preas Association. Wellington, Last Night. New regulations are issued in regard to the annual leave of civil servants and the allowances to be made to- them while travelling on business of their departments. An officer who has served for fifteen years may get three weeks' •leave of absence 5 if he lias served less than this period he may be allowed a fortnight's leave a year. Officials whose salaries do not exceed £4OO per annum are to be granted 10s per day travelling allowance; those whose salaries do not exceed £OOO, 12s Od per day; and those whose salaries' exceed this amount, 15s. The allowance while at sea will be 5s for the first day, each subsequent day being paid for at the rate of 2s Od. These allowances will only be paid while the officers are absent from headquarters at night. Each officer will be obliged to state the reason of his absence.
Christehurch, Last Night. There is reported to b 0 some indignation expressed among of the Post and Telegraph Department here consequent upon a ukase that has gone forth that after the end of the present month annual leave and the amount of travelling cxpensca arc to be decreased. Officers who have been under fifteen years in the service will receive a fortnight instead of three weeks' leave, and those who have been over fifteen years in the s'ervice will have to content themselves with three weeks instead of a month. Allowance whilst travelling in respect to officers receiving £4OO per annum in fixed at 10s per day, and in respect to those receiving salaries over £4OO and tin to I'tiOO the allowance is 12s Od ncr day.
