Colonel Fo.xton (Commonwealth representative at the Imperial Defence Conference) is settling the Himl details of defence matters with the Admiralty. Interviewed, he stated there was no reason to doubt that the Commonwealth Defence Hill would lie welcomed generally, " for," lie said, " the public think we have a possible danger in the future. One cannot say what the danger is, but the feeling exists." lie expects by June, 1012, or, at all events, by the end of the vear, the present Imperial Australian squadron will bo relieved by the Australian fleet unit. The building of the larger vessel is to be commenced immediately, and the others will be begun at dates' which will make their completion synchronise with that of the larger ship.
