WAS IT THE WARATAH?
A MYSTERIOUS BURNING VESSEu. By Cable.— Press Association.— Oopyrighl Received 24, 11.55 p.m. London, September 24. In response to a special enquiry, Lloyd's agent at Manila telegraphs con. firming the statement made by the crew of the steamer Harlow regarding the sighting of a smoking vessel off Africa. He adds that the vessel was sighted at 7.30 in the evening and that an ex?loslon occurred at 8 o'clock. The disance was too great to ascertain the ship's identity. The position of the wreck was latitude 31.38 south and longitude 20.45 east. Luna's slate that the Clan Mclntyre reported sighting the Waratah at 0.30 in the morning of July 27th in the approximate position of latitude 32.17 south, longitude 29.17 east, at a distance of about 51 miles ahead of the wreck reported by the Harlow.
The captain of the Harlow suggests that the libFtoin of the sea be swept in the locality.
