Mr. W. G. Malone returned last niglit from a visit to Wellington. Mr. F. W. Barnard has been appointed Registrar of Marriages, Births, and Deaths at Opunakc. Mr. Frederic Cliffe, examiner under thu Aa.-ocialcd Board of the 11.C.M. and K.A.M., Ixjiidon, arrived in town by the ixpress train last niglit. He will conduct examinations at the Convent School this morning and at St. Mary's Hall on Monday.
The Hon. R. McKenzic arrived at Stratford on Thursday uvening, ond subsequently received a deputation re several matters of local importance. The Minister proceeded to inspect th* railway works at Kiore and the Mount Kgmont railway and stone quarries. He goes to Kllliaiu this afternoon. ' The l!ov. John Wilkinson, M.A., wna arrived in Wellington on Tuesday by the Kuapemi from England, has come to Xew Plymouth to relieve the Rnv. S. Siienecr in charge of the Fitzro/Hell Block portion of St. Mary's parish until thi' end of the vear, owing to the illness of Mr. Spencer. The Kev. Wilkinson was working in the Liverpool diocese fo r the last live years. A cablegram states that Robert Hoc. iiiMiiifarturer of printing machinery, is j dead. Deceased was born in New Vork in I8:i!>. He ciilered the prinliiig press faclorv <.f It. Hoc and Co., founded by , his grandfather, ftobcrt, and developed ; the printing press from the "Hoc cylinder'' oi IS-lfl patent to the present double sextuple lloe. Deceased also developed presses of greatly improved type for printing in colors and the manufacture of circular saws and saw hits. He l'.ad large factories in New Vork and London.
The death occurred at Auckland yestoday of Mr. David Oraigi, formerly general manager of the New Zealand Insurance Co. Mr. Craig had rcacn,:d the allotted span of life. He enteivd the service of the New Zealand Insurance Co, in 1807. Promotion came rapIdly his way, chiefly on account of his exceptional business ability. For a considerable number of years he acted as manager for the company at Christchurch. He was appointed general manager for New Zealand for the company i about 1800 and thence till 1903 he had charge of the head office at Auckland, retiring in that year on superannuation. Since his severance from the company Mr. Craig had lived a retired life in Auckland. About a fortnight ago he was seized with a paralytic stroke. — Press wire.
