DISTRICT NEWS

(From Our Ojvii Correspondents). WAITARA. THE BOWLING CLUB. The annual general meeting of members of the Waitara Howling Club was held on Wednesday evening. Mr. A. W. Ogle, president, occupied the chair. There was a large attendance of members. The annual statement of accounts, which was unanimously adopted, showed the receipts to be £B3 Lis (id. the biggest items being members* subscrotions £7l Cs Cd, croquet club .CI 17s lid. proceeds euchre parties £7 Us Oil. tournament fees £2 ISs. leavine. a credit balance of £3 10s lid. The'expenditure amounted to ,C 7!) 18? 7d. The surplus of assets over liabilities amounted to £2O 10s 4d.

The auditors' report was read, sir;ixesling the following alterations, viz.: Thai a list of debenture-holders be mule out in proper form and same be lodged ill the bank for safe custody; that a croquet account in future be kvpl en tireiy separate from the general accounl for bowling club tournament fees. This amount applying in the balance-sheet should not have appeared in the gener. i funds, as (his money is only in trust for the time being; that a proper set of books 1m procured to enable the secretary, to keep the records of the club; that another member of the club bl authorised to sign cheques in place of 11 r. Croll. who has left the district. It was resolved that the above recommendations of the auditors be adopted. Messrs. W. Hogg. R. Grimmer. D. Hutchinson, .1. Excell, and R. Gribbon were elected members. The following officers were elected:--President. Mr. W. A. Oglo (re-elected); vice-president. Mr. H. E. Gilbert; secretary and treasurer, Air. C. M. Townsend; committee, Messrs. A. F. DugAalc, G. Nosworthv, R. Ford, W. 11. Nosworthy, W. Bent, S. Wyllie, and W. Andrews.

It -was resolved that Messrs. Ogle, Gilbelt, and the secretary sign cheques or. behalf of the club.

A hearty vote of .ijianks was extended to Mr. S. Wyllie, the late secretary, fo? his valuable assistance to the club. It was resolved that widows of deceased members be permitted to attend and play on the croquet lawn.

A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. A. F. Dugdalc and Mr. W. Sampson for their assistance during the past season.

The. question of erecting an up-to-date pavilion was discussed at length, and it was finally resolved that the club erect a suitable pavilion, and £OO worth of debentures was taken up in the room towards the cost of the erection of the pivrilion.

Mr. C. If. was thanked fo.his offer to supply the bricks for the chimney free of cost.

A committee meeting was held after the annual meeting, when the following appointments were made:—Warden, Mr. W. Sampson; selection committee. Messrs. A. F. Dugdalc and S. Wyllie. . The matter of appointing a caretaker was left in the hands of Mr. W. Sampson to arrange. Messrs. Dugdalc and G. Nosworthy were appointed a. committee to manage the croquet lawn. Accounts amounting to £7 6s were passed for payment.

It was deckled to arrange a ladder competition for members during the coming season, and to open the green on the 30th instant.

LITERARY AND DEBATIXf) SOCIETY. The final meeting of the Literary and Debating Society was held on Tuesday evening. The- following items were rendered:—Pianoforte solo, Mrs. Wilk.w, song, Mr. Scully; reading, Mrs. ft Bayly; song, Mr. Stead; duet, Mr. and Mrs. Scully; recitation, Miss Eeev?; recitation, Mr. Gilbert. MOUNTED RIFLE UNIFORMS. Mr. W. J. Lonergan, tailor, has -e----cured the order for supplying uniforms to the. iiiewly-formed North Taranaki Mounted Rifles. The tunic will he light khalii, and the breeches of darker color. Slouch hats will he worn.
