ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A RAILWAY FATALITY. ' By Telegraph.—Press Association. , Marton, Tuesday. iA shunter naniedi McCabe was fatal'y injured at Marton Junction last nigh! while occupied at shunting. He was standing on a truck, clad in a heavy oilskin, when he dipped. The oilskin caught on the brake and McCabe was dragged for gome distance. Two rib; were broken, penetrating! the lungs. The unfortunate man died ou the way to the Wanganui hospital. He was married but had no children.
[The deceased formerly lived in New Plymouth, having been stationed at the railway goodshed for several years. It is only about six months ago since he was transferred from New Plymouth to Marton.]
A YOUNG MAN'S DEATH. Eltham, Tuesday. An inquest was held to-day touching the death of Ernest Perry, about 24 years of age, who was found dead under' an overturned baker's cart on the country road yesterday afternoon. Apparently' the cart ha<f overturned and pinned deceased to the ground, suffocating him by the pressure. A verdict was given accordingly. Deceased arrived from England a couple of years ago. He did not have any relatives in the Dominion. FOUND DEAD IN BED.
Christchurch. Last Night. Wm. J. Venables was found dead in bed at his boarding-house to-day. He had been ailing recently, and on retiring last- night asked not to be disturbed. In *he morning, when he did not put in.an appearance at midday, his room was visited, and he was found dead. The probable cause was heart failure His brother (Major Venables), .sometime of the Imperial Army, is now resident in the North Island.
