THE WEATHER.
SUP IK THE MANAWATU (JORGE.
By Telegraph. —Preßs Association. Palmerston N., Last Night.
Heavy rains have fallen to-day, ospecially in the watershed. The altevnoon train from Woodville got through, but after it had passed, there was a big slip in the middle of the Gorge which came down in the midst of such luavy rain that the men were compelled to leave it. The tram, which should have reached here from Pannevirke, stopped at Woodville, and the train lrom here to Woodville returned from Ashhurst. As it is impossible to tell the extent of the damage at present, it is not known whether communication can be restored by morning. The slips are too bad for passengers to be transferred. Tile rivets are rising.
