WRECK OF THE UMLAHLft By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyrigii London, September HI. The Dullard and King .Company's steamer Umlahli, bound from London to Port Natal, is oahoiu at Cape Point. A Union Castle liner rescued some of the passengers. Eleven were drowned' owing to the, overturning of a boat. Received 17, 10.50 p.m. London, September 17. The Umlahli ie a total wreck. Only one was drowned.
THE WAIPARA INQUIRY. Brisbane, September 17. The Murine Hoard found Unit the stranding (if the steamer Waipura near Cape Moretou, when bound to London via Sydney, was 1 due to the set of the wind and tide while awaiting to tns charge Hie pilot, who left her in an unsafe position. Tile pilot's certificate was suspended fur three months and the master exonerated from all hlame.
MAORI WRECK ENQUIRY. THE COMMISSION'S RECOMMENDATIONS. Received 17, 10.50 p.m. London, September 17. The Commission of Enquiry into fnc wreck of the Maori considers that the life-saving appliances at Capetown, namely, two rocket-signalling apparatus and a lifeboat, efficient and sufficient, lint there were no similar appliances elsewhere on the peninsula. The lifeboat was unable to assist owing to the rocky lee shore.
The Commission recommend the transfer to Sinionstotvn of one of the rocket apparatus, the erection of a light, house at Diaz Point instead of that !>t Cape Point, and, finally a light with a siren and fog signals at Slangkoppoint Point.
