NEW TYPE OF MACHINE. , By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, September 15. ■ Santos Dumont, at St. Cyr, in France, travelled five miles in five miuutes across country upon an aeroplane with a carrying area of nine square metres (1)0 sq. ft.) compared with 63 metres ol Wright's biplane. The aeroplane and. motor cost £2OOO sterling. Dumont'n patents are public property. PROPOSED CONTEST ABANDONED Received 16, 11 p.m. London, September 10. The Wembley aerial contest has been abandoned, Bleriot and Latham declaring the ground to .be unsuitable.
