WHITELEY FLOWER SHOW
The Whiteley Spring Flower Show opened yesterday afternoon in the Whiteley Hall, and was open during tire 'evening. The display of blooms is surprising, both in quality and quantity, nn,d next year the management will have to arrange for more room, both for the exhibits and the public. The long tables filled with daffodils were a lovely sight, and some of the blooms were of rare excellence. All the popular spring flowers were represented, in eluding the little primrose, polyanthus, | violets, camellias, and so on, and some of the latest varieties, splendidly matured, were staged. The decorated tables and mantles, and the vases, baskets, and bowls of flowers evidenced considerable skill and taste, and wt/e a stron:' section. Amongst tnc specimen plants shown were noticeable a lovely and rare iris, grown by Mr. Newton King, and a beautiful asparagus fern, trained over a frame several feet high, and' about tile best we have seen. The champion narcissus was a Glory Liedcn, shown by Mr. J. Gibson. The Morshead Nursery Co. and Mr. J. R. Duncan made capital displays. Mr. V. Davis judged the cut blooms, and Mesdames W. L. Newman, C. Webster, and T. Brash the decorative section. -The sweets and fancy goods stalls, and the afternoon tea and supper rooms, all conducted by the ladies of the Whiteley congregation, did excellent business, and an "art gallery" and shooting gallery had their share. The "art gallery" is a marvel of ingenuity, The following is the prize-list:
