NORTH POLE DISCOVERY.
PEARY'S DASH. CANADIAN CLAIM TO TEE POLE. STATEMENT BY DR. COOK. By Cable—Press Association.—Copyrigflt New York, September 14. A telegram received at Battle Harbor, Labrador, brings a statement derived from members of the expedition aboard the KoDscvclt. It states that Commander Peary and one Esquimau alone reached the l'ole, and that the negro servant, llenson, and three Esquimaux, who also made a dash, were left on the march south of the l'ole. Sir Wilfrid Laiirier, Premier of Canada, demands all the territory between the North American boundary and the Pole as the recognised hinterland of Canada. Dr. Cook stated that he entrusted some notes of his observations with Sir. Whitney, a millionaire and explorer, who was on a "sporting expedition in thi! neighborhood of Etah. u Commander Peary telegraphs: ' I have no knowledge of Cook having aivcn Whitney any records. Fifty reporters arc awaiting his arrival.
DR. COOK XRVKR REACHED THE POLE. PEARY'S CLEAR PROOF. .Received 15, 11 p.m. New York, September 15. Commander Peary declared that he has complete proof'that Dr. Cook n«vcr reached the Pole. He awaits Dr. Cook's statement before replying. He adds that the whole facte would mobably not be known for half a year.
